Mahila Mandal Barmer Agor (MMBA) is a grassroots women-led organization based in Rajasthan, dedicated to empowering the most marginalized communities of western India since 1991. What began as a small collective of women fighting for basic rights in a drought-stricken village has today grown into a trusted, multi-sectoral organization working across Rajasthan — reaching thousands of women, youth, artisans, persons with disabilities, and nomadic communities.

Rooted in the arid heart of the Thar Desert, MMBA stands for dignity, inclusion, and grassroots leadership. We believe that real change begins with the most vulnerable — when women lead, when voices from the margins are heard, and when solutions come from within the community.

Our Founder

Mahila Mandal Barmer Agor is the result of the struggles of Mumtaz Ben who came to Indira Colony after her marriage. In the beginning of the 1980s, Indira Colony on the outskirts of Barmer presented a picture of despair – without roads, potable water, healthcare facilities, education and basic infrastructure. Despite hailing from an orthodox Muslim family, she dreamt of doing something different to change her colony and set an example for the society.
