Akala Devi wife of Late Kamal Ram 60 years woman residing in village Onada of block Sheo in district Barmer (Rajasthan) belongs to Bheel (ST) community and has low social status and is deprived in the community.

The client condition is normal because she is living in rough mud house and depends on agriculture and cattle rearing, her family earns 18000 rupees per annum. Before intervention of MMBA, Akala Devi was low vision in L/E because of well-developed cataract. She was unable to prepare food washing clothes and utensil and depends on other people. Her life is really very difficult to survive and she was very depressed for her critical situation and now she was looking someone who has to guide and help her. When Akal Devi was identified as matured cataract client, our field worker constantly visited her house and counseled and makes her confident for her eye operation.

Our CES field staff went at least five times to convince her cataract operation. But she was not cooperating to us for cataract operation because she doesn’t want to lose her eyesight. But we have counseled her and give some example, by showing other successfully cataract operations clients in her/surrounding village; our staff prepared her for cataract operation by our constant effort; Akala Devi was successfully operated at Netra Jyothi Hospital. This area is challenging area, both in geographical near to Pakistan boarder and in practice of century old social customs such as superstition, myths, misconception false about the eye diseases. Once up a day we me Akala Devi, she was superstitious and her loosing confident, becoming the bearer for operation. Earlier she was not ready for eye operation. We listen the voice of client carefully and explain our comprehensive program to clear all myth and misconception about operation.

Most of the villagers in these clusters reside only in their agriculture land and because of this one can find house to house with long distance, but our staff counseled and prepared him. After that we screened in our camp and then referred to NJH Barmer and successful Eye operated. Despite geographical area, scattered demographic factor and social customs and myth and superstition present in society. MMBA was able to bring Akala Devi, to NJH hospital and she was successfully operated. Today, Akala Devi leads an independent life, able to move freely and doing her household cores activities i.e preparing food, washing cloths, utensils etc. Recovery of eye vision helps her to enjoy life and handling all home affair activities she is very happy that her vision is recovered. She said , now she can take care herself one promising statement he made is now she will work as a motivator in her own village and convince others for cataract operation, she was very happy with the effort of MMBA.

All her friend those who are aged and villagers are happy to see her moving independently. Because of our constant effort provide this, she promised us that she will convince other eye suffer people for eye checkups and for cataract    operation.

Her family and village community has positive reaction for his successful operation. In a way successful recovery of vision of Akala Devi has helped our field staffs to convince other cataract clients for operation. Whenever they approach new clients, they give example of life of Akala Devi before operation and changes life after operation, now villagers are cooperative in helping our field staffs to know the cataract patients.
